The streetwalking cheetah himself – Iggy Pop – is among many things, an old card when it comes to boardshorts. How do you think he got such an immaculate basecoat?
“I usually wake up and stay nude for three or four hours,” Iggy says. “And when I feel like getting formal, I’ll put on boardshorts.”
Indeed, it’s only fitting that Iggy would see eye to eye with the Bong’s “Life’s Better In Boardshorts” rationale and what will happen next is anyone’s guess. Will we see Iggy trash the stage in a pair of Bong boardies? Let’s hope so.
Often obnoxious, always shirtless, we expect Iggy and his trunk will push on with the live performances which have gone down as legendary in the music world. And to celebrate, Billabong have just announced their latest collab with the Godfather of punk…
The Iggy Pop x Billabong LAB collection is inspired by Iggy’s gig posters from the 80’s & 90’s, with prints that pay tribute to his groundbreaking proto-punk. They’ve even stitched up the same tiger print leather jacket from the Raw Power album cover, redesigned as a fully waterproof ocean garment.
But what makes this whole deal really exciting is the fact that Creed McTaggart got to hang, jam and shoot the shit with his hero – Mr. James Osterberg – the runaway son of a nuclear A-bomb!
And while we are sworn to secrecy about what these two absolutely magic humans are planning, we can assure you it’s big news for surf and punk fans alike.
So for now, scope the wears in the video above with outtakes of Iggy in Raw Power mode, which is required listening if you haven’t already heard it.
Crank the dial to 11, then get the new mag, turn to page 54 and read all about how Creed McTaggart ended up hanging with this rock n roll icon over in the US of A.
