Unless you’ve blown all your hard earned on a silver pillow (in a bush), you’re no doubt aware that Margaret River – a region known for deep ocean swells and delicately fermented grape juice – is playing host to the World Championship Tour this week. This is great news for would-be surf photogs, not only for the inky concentration of WSL elites, but also because Peter ‘Joli’ Wilson is teaching surf photography at Cape Mentelle Vineyards this Thursday. Picture yourself cavorting through the vines and tell us this isn’t your must-go moment! We’re talking about 35 years of industry experience ripe for the plucking in a unique tutorial with one of the industries most seasoned lensmen. Want to time your frames with pinpoint accuracy? Talk to Joli. Want a view from the lens on surfing’s hallmark moments? Talk to Joli. Wanna suck all the moisture out of a two thousand dollar digital SLR sans plastic straw or Laird Hamilton lung capacity? Again, Joli is the man to talk to. An enduring figure in surf photography, Joli continues to capture the best side of our sport, and also happens to be a senior contributor for SW. He’s zeroed in on the world’s greatest surfers from Andy Irons to John John Florence, representing the heartbeat of our sport and culture since 1972. A fine vintage of surf captures and sweet-sweet vino… what’s not to love?
