If you’re within cooee of Perth, you oughta know that Jack McCoy – the grandmaster of surf cinema & ambassador of aloha – is returning to West Oz for a magical night of storytelling with his special guest (and greatest subject) Mark Occhilupo. The pair are in town for one night only on April 7, at Perth’s UWA Octagon Theatre to discuss the making of Billabong’s iconic 90s catalogue, and it’s one you’d be totally bonkers to refuse when you consider films like Green Iguana, Bunyip Dreaming and The Occumentary (to name a few), have aged sweeter than fine wine in the digital landscape. And while we’ll always swoon over powerhoof attack on 16mm, this is also a rare chance to hear moments from behind the scenes of some of our fave surf movies! How sick is that?! Coinciding with the WSL Margaret River Pro, it’s a timely appearance for Papa McCoy and the 1999 World Champ, which is sure to make waves in the West Oz surf community.
The night also gives light to a life’s work of 25 original motion pictures, as Jack retells life and death adventures of working with the worlds best surfers from Gerry Lopez and Michael Peterson to Andy Irons and Kelly Slater. Jack will also talk about his tools of his trade, his passion for the soundtracks and collaborating with legendary musical artists, as well as the filming of one of the most famous waves in surfing history. You won’t want to miss it!
